What is Joomla Dynamic Content Management System

The German Political and Military used a vast amount of different helmets and uniforms both during and before the war. The military types were used by the Wehrmacht (army), Luftwaffe (air force), Kreigsmarine (navy) and the Waffen SS. Other types were used by political forces such as Hitler Youth, NSKK, Red Cross, and SA, to name a few.

The Michigan Traveling Military Museum is pleased to have a very nice cross-section of interesting German helmets and uniforms in our collection. 


The German Political and Military used a vast amount of different edged weapons both during and before the war. Political organizations issued their members dress bayonets, daggers and swords that were unique in design and were made especially to differentiate the organizations from one another. The military forces also had their own style of dagger and sword that signified membership in the air force, army and navy. German military forces used many different types of bayonets and fighting knives during combat, including types captured from countries defeated by Germany during the war.

The German military used a large number of different ordnance items during World War II. In the grenade line was the model 24 and model 39 stick grenades that are popularly known as “Potato Mashers,” and the egg-type model 39. In the area of land mines, the Germans used a variety of different types, including the Tellermine series of mines, model 42 Shumine (made of wood), and the deadly S-mine series of anti-personal mines popularly known as the “Bouncing Betty.” Probably the most advanced and important ordnance item used by the German military was the Panzerfaust series of anti-tank rocket launchers. These simple and effective weapons were used with deadly effect against allied armored vehicles during the war.

The German Political and Military used a vast amount of different flags, armbands, and medals both during and before the war. There were many different organizations in Nazi society, and many had their own unique insignia, medals and symbols.

The German military used a variety of field equipment during World War II, including many variations of backpacks, canteens, ammunition pouches, compasses and more. These field equipment items were made of many different materials that varied as the war went on.
